Oscar Night: Twilight Takes The Cake

I make no secret of my love for all things Twilight. I won't even apologize for it. It's your prerogative to hate on it all you want, but you have to admit that the Twilight girls looked pretty great at the Oscars.

I don't say this lightly, because about ninety percent of the time I think these two girls make some pretty awful red carpet choices. Not this time, though. Oh no, this time they seem to have gotten some decent stylists and I am hereby begging them to hold on with dear life.

Kristen Stewart in a midnight blue, silk organza Monique Lhullier.

Is that...dare I say it... A SMILE? I wasn't even aware that Kristen knew how to smile! I'm so proud of her! It would also appear that she actually washed her hair. I don't even know if I can handle this. The whole look is sophisticated without being too old, and glamorous but still laid-back, which fits in with Kristen's usual style. I nearly did a double-take when I saw her on the screen because, well, frankly, she usually looks ridiculously awkward, disheveled, and mismatched. Not so this time. Yay, Kristen!

One thing - stop channeling Miley Cyrus and please stand up straight!

Nominee for Up in the Air, Anna Kendrick in peach-colored Elie Saab.

I love Elie Saab and I love this dress on Anna. The draping is so pretty I can hardly even handle it. The off-the-shoulder neckline is really flattering on her, too. This is such a vast improvement over most of the events I've seen her at I'm just in awe. She's been one of my favorite people since she starred in the indie flick, Camp, and I'm so glad she's finding success.

The People Have Spoken

And they've chosen their favorite...everything. Vampires ruled the night as The Twilight Saga, True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries were all big winners. Cute, blonde, and perky country singers were a hit, too - Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift both took home awards as well.

The results were fairly predictable, though, and I was way more interested in what everyone was wearing.

Some of my favorites of the night:

Taylor Swift in a Jenny Packham mini dress, Neil Lane jewels, and Louboutin heels.

I love this look. I think she looks adorable. The dress is gorgeous! Here's an up-close swatch of the fabric:

It's all ruched and bedazzled (in a pretty way, not a scary 80's-home-ec-project-kinda-way) and fits her like a glove.

I love that messy up-swept hair and the fresh-faced makeup. Those earrings are pretty fabulous, too. "Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Fine holiday fun..." (Quick, name that movie!)

Diana Agron in a Belle of the Ball dress by Floreat

I love Diana on Glee and I think she's a gorgeous girl in general. I know this wasn't the most extravagant dress on the red carpet. It wasn't the most beautiful or the flashiest... But for some reason I just really like it on her. I also like the natural makeup and the hairstyle looks really pretty. I mean, it's the People's Choice Awards, not the Oscars. I think she's allowed to keep it low key.

I am not, however, okay with those pointy shoes. I think rounded-toe platform pumps à la Louboutin would've been the way to go. I also think she would benefit from some jewelry. Maybe some big sparkly studs in her ears or a simply necklace? A cuff might have been nice, too. I don't know... It just needs something. I still think she looks great, though.3.

Are we seeing a trend here? I like 'em white, short, and frilly? Ha. What can I say? It's just my style. I love the floaty feel to the dress. The length gives it a nice proportion and I love the red shoes as a great pop of color, even if they blend into the carpet. I like the soft waves and I love that she continued the trend of soft makeup.

The next two choices are my "I almost love them...but something is just really off about the damn dress" looks.

Carrie Underwood in a Christian Cota dress, Rock & Republic shoes, and a Lauren Merkin clutch.

I love, love, love the top half of this dress. It's the bottom half that makes me wince. If the black overlay followed the white part underneath and it was short and form-fitting it would probably be much better, but I think the best option would have been to extend the white to match the length of the black. Then it would be an adorably retro a-line cocktail dress and wouldn't come off nearly as odd as this does. Also, I can't bring myself to like the shoes. They just look like weird gladiators that are cutting off the bottom of her legs.

I do like the makeup. Intense eyes and a sheer lip is always a winner. And those earrings are pretty fabulous. I could've handled a bit more fun with the hair though. Almost there, Carrie. Almost.

Olivia Wilde in Monique Lhullier.

I love this dress...in theory. Again, the top half is absolutely beautiful and I love the belt. But something is really off about the length of the dress. I think it either needs to be a floor-length gown, or needs about a foot chopped off the bottom. One or the other would do it, but this in- between length is just really awkward. I'm also not a fan of the not-quite-peep-toe shoes. What is it? A fake peep-toe? I just don't get it.

She looks stunning from the waist-up though! Another almost there. Better luck next time, Olivia!

Alright, time for the biggest disasters of the night.

Kelly Rutherford in Jenny Packham.

What. A. Mess. I truly don't even know what to say about this monstrosity. Satin, beading, knots, over-exposure... What doesn't this dress have thrown into it? There is nothing redeemable about this look. The dress is ugly, ill-fitting, and completely inappropriate for Kelly. Not only does she look completely over-dressed, but she looks sloppy, disheveled, and just... Ew. That chest region is just... I can't even look. The pulled back hair is too severe, the earrings are way too big for a dress that has that much going on near the top... It's just all wrong. Very, very wrong.

Francia Raisa in Jean Fares Couture.

WHAT IS THIS?

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. I have no words. None. At all.

However, since she was in Bring It On: All or Nothing I do feel the need to say:

You Ugly!

Okay, maybe not you... But that dress is. And so is your hair. I bet your makeup would be okay if it was paired with great hair and a fab dress, but right now? It's just adding to the disaster of a look. Not okay, honey. Really not cool. Fire your stylist IMMEDIATELY.

Okay, this wasn't a total disaster. I actually really like the hair and makeup on Katie. This dress, though... I just... Don't understand. I guess it's trying to be avant garde? Maybe? Or something? I dunno. Come on, Katie, I know you can do better.

A few other disappointments of the night:

From left to right:

Ginnifer Goodwin in Christian Lacroix - she just looks unhappy and uncomfortable. Way too much going on in that dress. Ugly shoes, too.

Kate Walsh in vintage Sarni - I just don't like it. It's shapeless and ugly. Her legs look fab, though.

Alyson Hannigan - not sure who makes her dress, but the shoes are Rene Caovilla. I love Alyson. I think she's adorable and I've been a fan since her days on Buffy. The dress just screams 'bridesmaid' though, no? The fabric is a poor choice, too. It looks all wrinkly. Not cool, honey.

Sandra Bullock in a Vivienne Westwood dress and Brian Atwood pumps - she had an awesome night and won several awards, but the dress was just...off. Weird angles, weird color, weird...everything. And I think the shoe color clashed with the dress color and made it all worse. I think loose, wavy hair would've been way better for her as well.

Shocker of all shockers, it's the Twilight guys... I can't help it! They're just so pretty (and by 'pretty' I mean macho and manly, of course).

Kellan Lutz - le sigh. That grin and those dimples literally kill me. I can't even handle it.

Is Taylor Lautner legal yet?? For a teenager, he's certainly got that intense stare down pat, doesn't he?

Guess Lady Gaga Isn't the Only One Going Gaga...

...Over Carrera Sunglasses.

I declared last week that I had somehow missed out on the Carrera train. I had really never noticed this brand until Lady Gaga's video for "Bad Romance." Now? I see these classic aviators on...everyone.

No, seriously. Everyone, and their brothers, in the celebrity world has been spotted sporting these babies and I haven't quite figured out how I missed the memo. FAIL on my part!

Grammy-winner Alicia Keys is the latest star to feature a pair of Carreras in her new music video - "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart." First, this is a gorgeous song, though I can't say that I've heard any Alicia songs that aren't. The girl can sing, no doubts about it. Second? She is rockin' these shades.

This is the Panamerika 1 style and I think the whole "modern-vintage" (that's totally a technical term) fits with the look of the video. Actually, they fit with the whole outfit. I'm definitely a fan. And by the way, how fabulous is that cropped, studded leather jacket??

Alicia isn't the only one jumping on the bandwagon... A little research turned up a whole slew of celebs showing their love for the brand.

Here's Britney in her video for "3" (P.S. Gotta love how she pimps out her own fragrance in the beginning of this!)

Gwen Stefani is rocking her signature platinum locks, ruby red lips, and some great white shades. Does she ever not look put together?

It looks like hot young Hollywood has been getting in on the action, too.

Take a look at Taylor Momsen, who's clearly trying to steal Gwen Stefani's look and really just not getting it...

But, I do love the red glasses! Good call on those, Taylor. Now try easing up on the vampira lipstick - you weren't actually in Twilight, remember?

You weren't... But Taylor Lautner certainly was. And Mr.-I-Need-To-Remind-Myself-That-He's-Underage-Cause-Of-Those-Washboard-Abs-Lautner is apparently loving on these aviators, too.

The lovely Sophia Bush is holding up the legitimately stylish side of the CW (after Taylor Momsen, somebody has to give us hope...) at a Carrera launch party as she grabs a black pair to try.

I wish I had a closeup of that ring, it looks super cute! I also kind of wish I had Sophia's dimples. How adorable is she??

So, there you have it. Hollywood is officially on the Carrera train and there is no sign of slowing down any time soon. Has anyone else started seeing these glasses around, or is this just old news to you? Let me know in the comments!

New Moon Rising

I know I promised I wouldn't use this blog as my Twilight-obsessing-vehicle... And I'm not.

I swear. But, I can't not talk about this. It just wouldn't be right. There's a lot I need to discuss about the red carpet fashion choices at the Hollywood premiere of New Moon.

There was some good, some bad... And some what the hell were you thinking??

Let's take a look, shall we?

Here's Kristen Stewart, ever the reluctant superstar, and her jail bait (he's really only 17??) wanna-be-movie-love-interest, Taylor Lautner.

On one hand, Kristen looks better than she has in recent months, especially now that her Joan Jett mullet is finally starting to grow out. I have mixed feelings about her Oscar de la Renta gown, though. I think it's a lovely dress in general, but I think the fit is a little awkward... No? Maybe the waist a little low on her, or it's a tiny bit too long so parts of the skirt don't flow straight down the way they should... Or maybe I'm just crazy. I don't know. I think it's a good choice, but maybe a little more tailoring would have made this a home run for me.

Taylor, on the other hand, has found yet another perfectly fitting suit. The boy (yes, I emphasize the word boy here) certainly the body for a slim-fitting suit and he's clearly not afraid to show it off (anybody who's seen the New Moon trailers already knows that, though - he spends most of them shirtless).

Next we have my beloved Robert Pattinson.

Gucci suit, adorable grin, perfectly messy hair... This guy can't go wrong. I'll spare you any more of my gushing, though, no worries!

A few of the other Cullens join the premiere party. Here are Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, and Kellan Lutz. The boys looks fabulous in their tuxes and I think Ashley looks stunning in her Prabal Gurung gown. The back was actually my favorite part, and can I just say her makeup and hair are flawless? High-five to her stylist!

How pretty is that? Good choice, Ashley.

Their costar, Nikki Reed, didn't fair quite as well.

I guess this powder blue Burberry dress isn't awful... I just... Eh. I'm kind of indifferent. It does nothing for her figure (which is clearly pretty hot judging by those legs) and it seems a little casual, despite the shiny fabric. The hair and makeup were very pretty, though. Try harder on the dress next time.

How cute is Papa Cullen, Peter Facinelli with his wife, Jennie Garth? I love his three piece suit and purple shirt - very gothic. And you know how much I adore sparkles, so Jennie is right on with the awesomeness there and that one-shoulder dress makes her shoulders look lovely. I'm a firm believer than not everyone looks good in the one-shoulder trend, but I definitely think she rocked it.

And here is Peter's on-screen wife, Elizabeth Reaser, in Herve Lager.

She looks... Pretty hot. Not gonna lie. I'm a little bored with all the Herve Lager banded dresses... They're everywhere. And hey, if you've got the body for it? Do it up. And she certainly does have the body for it. Great hair, too. Overall, I like it. But definitely a safe choice.

Now, for my absolute favorite look of the night.

The lovely Dakota Fanning (She's 15! She's way too poised to be 15!) in a stunning Valentino peekaboo lace mini-dress. I love it. Seriously. All of it. It's glamorous and grown up, but still fun and flirty. Just fabulous. I like that she went easy on the hair and makeup since the dress itself makes a pretty big statement and she is still 15. She's got time to be all va-va-voom and overdone.

Next we have a few of the only regular old humans in the film.

Christian Serratos in ugly. Err... I mean a Rafael Cennamo mini-dress and Stella McCartney booties. Oh, and purple lipstick. WHAT IS THIS? Holy cleavage! And what is with the hemline going UP right where it should be covering the most?? And god, I have an unholy hatred for booties with dresses... I can't do it. I really can't. I can't even talk about this anymore. Ugh.

Here's Anna Kendrick in Talbot Runhof. Okay, my initial reaction was 'what the fu--'... And then I thought about it. And I looked at it some more. And now... I kind of like it. Is that weird? It's bizarre and blinged-out and shiney and... I dunno. I think it's fun. I have also loved Anna since her deliciously evil performance in the awesome indie flick, Camp, so I think that sways my opinion a little bit.

Okay, I think I left the worst for last....

Model Noot Seear in an atrocious Alexander McQueen. Now... I know he's all about the crazyness... But this? This is just... Tiger hiding in the forest with weird fish-scale-type armor? I don't know. I don't get it. I don't want to get it. It's just... Wow. Incredibly ugly. The uh... Hair is nice? Hardly enough to redeem that outfit though. And the tacky shoes. Don't even get me started on those. Honey... No. Just no.

There were quite a few more scary outfits I was going to talk about... But staring at the photos is kind of giving me a headache so I'll spare you the disasters! So, what do you think? Love the outfits? Hate them? Wish I'd shut up about anything and everything Twilight-related? Let me know!

Loving Luna

It was inevitable. New Moon is around the corner, so a Twilight-themed makeup line? I'm honestly surprised it took this long to come out. I mean, come on... Slap the Twilight name on just about anything and you're almost guaranteed a huge win. So what do we have here, exactly? Some cheesy products with vampire-related names?

Hardly. It actually looks like a nice range of high quality products made by DuWop, a pretty awesome makeup brand by itself.

One of DuWop's most popular products is Lip Venom - one of the original lip plumpers that burst onto the scene a few years ago.

This product was practically destined for a Twilight-Tie-In. It has the name Venom already so it's perfect. I'm actually not a huge fan of lip plumpers - I can't stand the burning/tingling sensations on my lips, but I know some friends swear by this stuff. Who knows, Twilight Venom might be worth a try since it's got what looks to be a red lip stain at the bottom. Could be interesting.

I'm actually more interested in the other lip products in this collection. First up - 'Just Bitten' Staining Balm.

I rarely wear lipstick. Most of the time I prefer to play up my eyes instead of my lips and I just like the look of gloss more than the heavy pigment of lipstick. I've also got to say that lip stains scare me. Something about how hard they are to get off just freaks me out completely. This stuff doesn't look scary at all, though! The description says it's a balm that has a ton of antioxidants, emollients, and natural sun protection. I'm a lip balm addict, so if you give me all that great stuff plus a little color? I'm definitely down for a test drive.

I'm a huge sucker (haha sorry... cue the cheesy pun jokes!) for fun packaging and pretty pink lip gloss. I have a huge collection of glosses and about 90% of them are various shades of pink. This 'Femme Fatale' Lip Gloss in Butterfly Kiss looks like it's right up my alley! Actually, the other colors available look really pretty as well. '53 Chevy looks like a lovely raspberry red, and Hush and Kindle both look like pretty nude/pale pink colors.

When it comes down to it almost everything in this collection looks like it could be fun. The 'Moonshadow' Eyeshadow duos have some great colors, especially Snow Storm, and I'm dying to check out the 'Mortal Glow' Bushing Creme.

Anybody else excited for this collection? Or New Moon for that matter? I know I am!

You know... Your mood swings are kinda giving me whiplash.

I decided pretty early on that I was going to try to keep my inner Twilight-fan from taking over this blog and so far it hasn't been too difficult. I even promise to ignore my natural instinct and refrain from giving you anything like an RPATTZ photo of the day (even though that would be HOT), but once in a while things are going to slip by.

Kind of like today. If you're a fan of the books or the movie or even just enjoy amusing parodies, you definitely need to check out The Hillywood Show. Right now. Seriously. Their Twilight video is absolutely hysterical. Come on. There is organized choreography. It's FABULOUS. I'm telling you. Just trust me!

Actually, even if you're not a Twilight fan, all of their stuff is pretty awesome. And for technical "non-professionals" the quality of their videos is amazing. Sisters Hannah and Hillary Hindi, as well as the rest of their cast and crew, seem like pretty cool people in general and from what I understand they are unbelievably friendly and gracious with the fans. They have Twilight director, Catherine Hardwicke, singing their praises and even the cast of the movie agrees. In fact, Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) was so entertained by the fact that the Hillywood actor playing Jasper looked so much like him that he wanted a photo with the guy.

Hannah and Hillary do just about everything for these videos. They write, act, direct, film, and edit everything themselves and do quite a remarkable job with all of it. Check out this exclusive interview, it's got a ton of fun info about the girls and their experience.

Up next for The Hillywood Show is a New Moon parody and judging by the "sneak peak" video it's going to be great. I, for one, am pretty stoked about it.
